100G of Stiff Upper Lip, Framed Original

This original artwork has been created especially for The Mix – Enter Gallery’s 2024 group show of original artworks from a selection of our artists.   

Charlotte Rose is known for stylish depictions of classic branding. Across her oeuvre, Rose invites us to consider the tactics used by companies to manipulate us into buying and consuming their goods.  

Speaking of this personal piece, Rose reveals:   

“I come from a family with a classically British ‘stiff upper lip’ attitude to lifeSometimes to test the water I would drop abrupt emotional statements at the dinner table. Maybe I enjoyed the discomfort. 

As an artist I also wrestle with the way that stiff upper lip attitude lives in me, in tandem with my desire to provoke. In family life, emotions can be brushed under the carpet to make way for polite small talk. And in my art, I rarely let anyone peer behind the curated exterior of ‘Charlotte Rose’. What I’m saying is that I find it hard to be vulnerable.” 

This original painting is created with acrylic paint and 22kt gold leaf on birch plywood. It comes signed by the artist.
