Takashi Murakami is an acclaimed artist heralded as 'Japan’s answer to Andy Warhol.' Best known for his smiley flowers, his ‘superflat’ theory of art combines Japan’s love for cuteness with its traditional artistic styles and aesthetics.  

Across his oeuvre, Murakami is known for exploring the dichotomy of Japanese culture, and its unique mix of modern and traditional, manic and serene. Here, Murakami presents the idea that blissful enlightenment is often born from great suffering.
