A Hero’s Journey, Artist Proof
This piece was originally created for A Hero’s Journey - Euan Roberts’ 2023 solo exhibition at Enter Gallery. The show subverts the traditional narrative arc from mythology, arguing we don’t have to undertake a journey to become our own hero. Instead, let’s be grateful for who we are now.
Animals are a staple of Roberts’ work, most notably his Fez-wearing bear, who is captured in this piece cycling towards an oasis. He explains:
“I use the bear as an avatar for ideas around Zen Buddhism and Daoist traditions. Bear represents this idea of zen – it’s always just in the moment, doing its own thing, moving in a purely instinctive way. There’s a harmony in nature I feel like we need to get back to as humans.”
