All New Boots and Panties
Back in his teaching days, Peter Blake taught a young man called Ian Drury, who went on to become a punk rocker with his band, Kilburn and the Highroads, and later, Ian Drury and The Blockheads. The pair became firm friends, and remained so until Drury’s death in 2000.
In memory of his friend, Peter created this piece - All New Boots and Panties, named after Kilburn and the Highroads debut album. Blake’s portrait is combined with the photo used for the debut album, taken by artist Chris Garbin. It was used as the cover for the Ian Drury tribute album released in 2001, featuring the likes of Paul McCartney and Robbie Williams.
