Chopfuckinchop Scarf
Chopfuckinchop Scarf is a woven acrylic scarf by contemporary artist Ryan Callanan (aka RYCA).
Released in 2019, the scarf is from a limited edition of 50. Chopfuckinchop Scarf plays on the tradition of the football scarf. Here, Callanan plays with the old idiom ‘Chop Chop!’, to create a humorous slogan. Against a black background, Callanan’s portmanteau word appears in shades of red and yellow, in the style of the traditional English pub sign.
Callanan is known for his tactile and iconographic works of art, inspired by his former career as a sign writer. His type-centred style, which incorporates glass, resin, gold leaf (and now textiles!) captures the beauty of the dying art of pub signage. Old-time pubs or favourite football clubs, Callanan’s work celebrates the British Blitz spirit of community with contemporary street style.
