As early as 1949, Blake started creating circus-themed collages, and the spectacle has remained a major subject in his work ever since.
To create the artwork, Blake employs his signature collage technique, and places etchings of antiquated figures disproportionately scaled against the smaller horses and acrobats in the foreground.
