Come and Rescue Me, Original

This piece is from A Hero’s Journey - Euan Roberts’ 2023 solo show at Enter Gallery. The show subverts the traditional narrative arc from mythology, arguing we don’t have to undertake a journey to become our own hero. Instead, let’s be grateful for what we have now. 

Animals are a staple of Roberts’ work, and his shark has cropped up in a number of works. He tells us: 

“These pieces are not about the animals - they’re a mirror that tells us things about humanity. Here, the shark represents society and the cheeseburger is an emblem of globalisation, commerce and America. By taking the burger out of its natural habitat and putting it in the sea it creates an absurd relationship between the two things. I believe nature and the animal kingdom give us perspective and can teach us everything we need to know about what we’re doing wrong.”

This original painting is created with acrylic on canvas, and comes signed by the artist.
