This minimalist hand-painted etching, with just a splash of vibrant colour, is Blake's homage to the life and work of his dear friend, British artist, Craigie Aitchison.
Aitchison kept canaries, and would reportedly let them fly around his studio as he worked. The colourful bird is a symbol of innocence, joy and illumination.
