Dressing Gown, Original on Canvas

Ruth Mulvie’s Dressing Gown, created for her 2025 Endless Summer exhibition at Saltdean Lido, captures one of her favourite times of day: the quiet, golden stillness of early morning by the pool.

This painting evokes the calm just before the day begins—when the lifeguards are setting out deck chairs, the water lies undisturbed, and the soft morning light hints at the possibilities ahead. Drawn to the quirky charm of lido culture, Mulvie used a vintage photograph of a man in a dressing gown as a reference—an eccentric but familiar figure one might easily spot at the poolside.

The composition is intentionally simple, with a low skyline that allows the viewer’s attention to rest fully on the water and the mood. Dressing Gown is a reflection on routine, ritual, and the quiet joy of easing into the day.
