Encompass, 2018

Encompass is a signed, limited edition silkscreen print by Danny Rolph.

Inspired by his travels and memories of Mauritius, Encompass joins Encounter and Endeavour in an edition of 30 prints. Rolph carefully selects his colors to evoke the essence of the island—blended pink and yellow represent the exotic Mauritian sunrises, while black gestures toward a topographical map of the island. The five vibrant elements—yellow, pink, pale turquoise, silver, and white—reflect the shapes Rolph observed during his time there, with pink, yellow, and white symbolizing the ground, while a slice of silver draws the eye into the composition. A gentle wisp of pale turquoise, reminiscent of a silk scarf or tropical bird, flows across the top, adding movement to the dominant shape.

Encompass perfectly completes the series, complementing the considered compositions, layered textures, and glazes of Encounter and Endeavour. Rolph views this print as a summary of his experiences on the island.
