Framed (BTP) Paris, Charabanc Outing
Since his career began in the 1950s, Sir Peter Blake has been prolific, creating paintings, collage, typography and more inspired by his fascination with popular culture. Blake’s impact on the face of contemporary art is so significant, he is now known as the ‘Godfather of Pop Art.’
This piece hails from Blake's beloved Paris Suite, which draws inspiration from the City of Love. Via his signature brand of collage, Blake transforms the city's iconic landmarks with scenes depicting unlikely casts of characters.
Here, Blake depicts a charabanc - an old-fashioned vehicle used for sight-seeing. This motif recurs in Blake’s work, from his paintings of Marcel Duchamp’s World Tour, to the double decker Art Bus Blake uses to tour the UK.
This silkscreen print is from a limited edition of 100, signed and numbered by the artist.
