Framed Deep Dark Garden

Framed Deep Dark Garden

This original artwork has been created especially for The Mix – Enter Gallery’s 2024 group show of original artworks from a selection of our artists.

Bruce McLean is a leading figure in the development of 1960s conceptual art. He is credited with breaking down the rigidity of visual art, loosening traditional forms into abstractions that celebrate the natural world.

Deep Dark Garden is one of McLean’s acclaimed garden paintings, which are inspired by the vibrant garden his wife, Rosy, has cultivated at the couple’s home in Menorca.

Mclean considers the garden a ‘moving sculpture’, given how by its very nature, it is constantly transforming.

Bursting with foliage and flowers and with abstract hints of pathways, ponds, and shrubs, the work showcases McLean’s skilful technique and dazzling use of colour, creating a painting that hovers somewhere between reality and abstraction.

This original piece is signed by the artist.
