If Peter Blake hadn't become an artist, he claims he would have tried to make it as a professional wrestler. His love for the "theatre, fantasy and idea of good versus evil' in the sport has resulted in a number of collections portraying wrestlers.
This series was created for his 2015 exhibition, Portraits and People. The series depicts Blake's very own band of fictional wrestlers. To give the impression his characters are famous, he has used features from celebrity faces to provoke a glimmer of recognition in the observer.
Each print combines three of Blake's favourite things; watercolour portraiture, typography, and flags. Fierce and covered in tattoos reminiscent of Blake's Tattooed People series, Sgt Slaughter 4th hails from the USA.
This framed silkscreen print is from a limited edition of 75, signed by the artist.
