Framed Unique Icelandic Lava Plane 05

This original piece is based on YBA Marc Quinn’s 2015 Icelandic Lava Plane series. It is one in a number of his artworks to explore life and death by capturing flowers at the peak of their beauty.

Here, Quinn has assembled a selection of blooms from around the world, including orchids – a repeat motif in his work. By combining flowers that would never bloom at the same time, the artist saves them from decay and creates a moment of timeless beauty.

Speaking of orchids, Quinn comments: “Orchids are like perfectly evolved little sculptures in themselves, they’re full of colour, interesting shapes and beauty. Even though they are a plant’s reproductive organs, they pun on human ones too. They make you realise it is colour, life and sexuality that keeps the world turning.”

This original giclée print is hand-finished with strokes of oil paint in vibrant pigments. It is signed and numbered by Quinn.
