Good Morning Tokyo, Framed Original
This original artwork has been created especially for The Mix – Enter Gallery’s 2024 group show of original artworks from a selection of our artists.
Growing up in a seaside town in Devon, images of Katsushika Hokusai’s Great Wave were everywhere. This caught Jayson Lilley’s imagination, and led to his early exploration of the Japanese aesthetic via Ukiyo-e, Manga comics, and Japanese woodblock print.
When visiting Japan for the Cherry Blossom Festival, Lilley fell in love with the Tokyo skyline, and the stark contrast between the hyper-modern architecture and the natural vista of Mount Fuji.
This latest artwork brings together some of the most distinctive aspects of the Tokyo landscape. Printed over a collage of Manga comics, Jayson has combined print, gilding, paint and spray paint in a way that pays homage to a city and culture that has fascinated him since childhood.
This original silkscreen print is created with gold leaf, collage, spray paint and oil. It comes signed by the artist.
