Framed Holy Eggs, Blue

Gavin Turk is a renowned conceptual artist who rose to prominence in the late 80s as one of the Young British Artists. Turk’s art explores themes of authenticity, identity, and the ‘myth’ of the artist.

This piece is from Turk’s 2022 Holy Eggs series - a series of six prints in which he interprets Lucio Fontana’s La Fine di Dio (The End of God). He has chosen to depict the egg as it is a motif that evokes many a theme - life and death, fragility and mortality, and for Turk, the delicate relationship between life and art. 

Each archival pigment print in the series is finished with laser-cutting and hand-tearing by Turk. He states: “As I pierce the egg I am following Fontana’s leap into the void, recreating a galaxy, a cosmos.”

From a limited edition of 30, each print in the series is signed by the artist on the front and numbered on the reverse.
