In The Name Of History
Contemporary artist, Mark Powell creates intricate hand-drawn portraits on found antique documentation using just a standard Bic Biro. While there is rarely a connection between his subject and chosen canvas, Powell explains that: "They are chosen to complement each other, and I hope lead the viewer to wonder, and maybe create, a shared history for the two.'
To create this artwork, Powell has penned his portrait of a Native American on a tourist map of Manhattan. The thought-provoking piece encourages the observer to reflect on everything that was lost to create the city that never sleeps.
In the Name of History is a solar photopolymer etching. From a limited edition of seven, the piece is signed and numbered by the artist.
