Orchids regularly crop up in Marc Quinn's work, allowing him to further explore themes of beauty and death. For In the Night Garden: Hale-Bopp, reminiscent of his Meteor Series, Quinn frames an orchid with different plants and fruit.
To create the artwork, Quinn photographs the flowers and digitally-reworks them prior to printing, deliberately accentuating the voluptuous nature of his carefully chosen subjects. Of orchids, Quinn has commented: 'Orchids are like perfectly evolved little sculptures in themselves, they're full of colour, interesting shapes and beauty. Even though they are a plant's reproductive organs, they pun on human ones too. They make you realise it is colour, life and sexuality that keeps the world turning'.
In The Night Garden: Hale-Bopp is from a limited edition of just 20, signed and numbered on the front by the artist.
