Maria Rivans' striking collages are a celebration of the complexity of people and the world that we live in. Via her eye for creating perfect harmony from the chaos, Rivans both makes sense of our world, and invites the observer to venture across the threshold into the fantastical parallel universes of her creation.

Indiana depicts Virginia McKenna, an English actress known for A Town Like Alice and for her work advocating for the rights of wild animals and protecting their natural habitats via The Born Free Foundation.

The piece is part of Rivans' pin-up series, inspired by the empowered female actors which made an impact on her as a child. Each embellishment is chosen to reflect the star's identity and to provide a modern twist on this icon of femininity.

Each of Rivans' collages are born from her collection of vintage ephemera, foraged from market stalls and second-hand shops. From selecting her chosen components to determining their perfect placement, each work of art is a labour of love, showcasing her sublime eye for colour and composition.
