Labyrinth TS172 Monochrome
This piece is from Marc Quinn’s Labyrinth series, which he began in 2011. The collection focuses on the unique patterns of human fingerprints and their role in our super-surveillance culture as the key to our identity.
The Labyrinth series is further proof of Quinn’s fascination with the human body, and of creating portraits of people that go way beyond just images of the subject. Other examples include his Iris works, his ground-breaking Self piece, which involved him casting a sculpture of his head in his own blood, and his DNA series, featuring images of his subjects’ DNA.
Quinn has used oil, acrylic and silicon to carefully craft the contours that make up the human thumb print. The piece it is part of a limited edition of 20, signed by the artist.
