Marcel Duchamp's World Tour - DC Thomson Reunion at the Tower Ballroom Blackpool

Marcel Duchamp's World Tour - DC Thomson Reunion at the Tower Ballroom Blackpool

Back in the early 2000s, Peter Blake created a series of paintings in homage to artist and writer, Marcel Duchamp. The paintings imagined Duchamp in a variety of unusual situations, including playing chess with Tracey Emin and hanging out with the Spice Girls.

This piece is one third of Blake's latest series depicting Duchamp - Marcel Duchamp's World Tour. Each piece in the series imagines his subject attending three fantastical events during a stay in Blackpool. In this artwork, Duchamp is an honoured guest at a reunion of DC Thomson characters, including Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, Minnie the Minx and the Bash Street Kids.

Blake's reverence for the French-American artist is down to his mission statement that anything an artist does can be considered art. This philosophy has been pivotal to Blake's career, as well as to the careers of prominent YBAs; Hirst, Emin and Quinn.

The print is part of a limited edition of 100, signed by the artist.
