Since emerging as one of Britain’s most distinctive contemporary collage artists, Maria Rivans has become renowned for her intricate works that weave together vintage imagery, pop culture references, and surreal storytelling. Her art reimagines cultural icons as timeless archetypes, often adorned with fantastical headdresses that blur the boundaries between humanity and the natural world.

In this piece, Rivans transforms Sharon Tate into a modern symbol of strength, beauty, and vulnerability. Dressed in an ornate gown and crowned with a dazzling headdress, Tate is enveloped by creatures of the wild – from snakes and blackbirds to proud lions and delicate nests - a dreamlike fusion of nature’s ferocity and tenderness. 

The title Me Jane playfully references the classic Tarzan television series, juxtaposing pop culture nostalgia with deeper reflections on womanhood, survival, and our entanglement with the natural world.
