Melody Maker 1977
Tony Dennis aka Tape Deck Art is a British contemporary artist with a passion for music and design, who paints and creates giant 3D pin badges.
Here, Tape Deck celebrates Melody Maker – one of the world’s first weekly magazines dedicated to music. The piece incorporates badge designs for the bands making headlines in 1977 - one of the most important years for music.
The artwork includes big name bands like Talking Heads, The Ramones and The Jam, alongside lesser-known, but equally important acts from 1977, Wire and Richard Hell.
To make this signed original piece, Tape Deck wraps each badge design onto 16 bespoke 150mm hand-spun aluminium badges and resin to finish. The badges are then mounted onto a bespoke Melody Maker acrylic board to resemble the front cover of this iconic music newspaper.
Size (cm): 103 x 73
Please note: Each badge is bespoke, as such there will be a minimum wait time of three weeks from ordering.
