Migrants, Skateboard

Migrants, Skateboard

Migrants by JR is a limited-edition skateboard produced in 2019 by JR. It is made of 7 ply grade A Canadian maple wood and comes with a studio stamped COA by the artist. A wall mount is included per deck. This image depicts a site specific project JR launched in 2012: an international picnic, with hundreds of people sharing a meal across the fence.

JR took a photo of the eyes of a “Dreamer,” one of the young undocumented immigrants who falls under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. He painted the photo onto a surface that visitors could eat off: one eye was on a table in Tecate, on the Mexican side of the border, while the other eye was on a tarp in Tecate, Calif.

15% percent of each sale is donated to Coletivo Skate Maré

Coletiva Skate Mare provides classes to help children develop skills and confidence through skateboarding. The funds also help construct a skate park with the help of Make Life Skate Life. An additional 15% of the sales revenue will support the activities of JR’s community center, Casa Amarela.
