Maria Rivans' striking collages are a celebration of the complexity of people and the world that we live in. Via her eye for creating perfect harmony from the chaos, Rivans both makes sense of our world, and invites the observer to venture across the threshold into the fantastical parallel universes of her creation.

This piece depicts iconic actress, Shirley McClaine, and is named after her character in The Apartment. It is part of Rivans' pin-up series, inspired by the empowered female actors that made an impact on her as a child. Each embellishment is chosen to reflect the star's identity and to provide a modern twist on this icon of femininity.

Each of Rivans' collages are born from her collection of vintage ephemera, foraged from market stalls and second-hand shops. From selecting her chosen components to determining their perfect placement, each work of art is a labour of love, showcasing her sublime eye for colour and composition.
