Mrs Smith Lenticular

Maria Rivans' striking collages are a celebration of the complexity of people and the world that we live in. Via her eye for creating perfect harmony from the chaos, Rivans both makes sense of our world, and invites the observer to venture across the threshold into the fantastical parallel universes of her creation.

Mrs Smith depicts Lana Turner, famed for her role as Cora Smith in The Postman Always Rings Twice. Turner was known as one of Hollywood's most glamourous femme fatales. Via her chosen selection of embellishments, Rivans uses this piece to draw a parallel between Mother Nature and the femme fatale - both beautiful, both deadly.

Each of Rivans' collages are born from her collection of vintage ephemera, foraged from market stalls and second-hand shops. From selecting her chosen components to determining their perfect placement, each work of art is a labour of love, showcasing her sublime eye for colour and composition.
