The Uzi is a recurring motif across the artist’s oeuvre, despite the fact he abhors guns. He explains:
‘Because of the era I got into graffiti, it was really popular to take a character and give them a fat gold chain and shoes with big laces. I hate guns, they’re disgusting, but they’ve always been a joke in my work – I paint a portrait of something and then I give it an Uzi, so that everyone knows I’ve done it.’
The original piece stands 18cm tall, and is painted in colours that regularly crop up in Aroe’s art, spattered with flecks of black.
