Maria Rivans' collages are a celebration of the complexity of people and the world we live in. Via her attention to detail and eye for creating harmony, Rivans makes sense of our world, and invites the observer to venture across the threshold into the fantastical parallel universes of her creation.

This piece depicts Jean Simmons, a British actress known for her role in Guys and Dolls. It's part of Rivans' pin-up series, inspired by empowered female actors that made an impact on her as a child. Each embellishment is chosen to reflect the star's identity and to provide a modern twist on this icon of femininity.

Rivans' collages are born from her collection of vintage ephemera, foraged from market stalls and second-hand shops. From selecting her chosen components to determining their perfect placement, each artwork is a labour of love, showcasing her sublime eye for colour and composition.
