Over the years, Peter Blake has returned repeatedly to circus performers in both his prints and paintings. This collection is a homage to one type of performer Blake believes art has neglected in recent years, the clown.
This piece, which is both minimal and busy at the same time, is reminiscent of Blake's earlier black and white collections, which involved the artist collecting objects of the same colour over a short period of time and gluing them to a painted wooden surface.
