Nimenko is a New Zealand born artist, now living and working in rural Gloucestershire. She is known for arresting mixed-media collages, inspired by the natural world.
As the name suggests, this piece is a modern momento mori, created using imagery of life and death. Alongside Jesus's crucifixion, Nimenko features butterflies and photographs of flowers (taken in the artist's garden) to symbolise the transience of the life cycle. The Latin inscription, "In hoc momento pendet eternitas' translates to, "On this moment hangs eternity.'
This mixed-media collage is finished with 24ct gold and a gold gouache. From a limited edition of 50, the piece is signed and numbered by the artist.
