Samhain, Framed Original
Emma is a British mixed media artist whose layered, textural works blend sculpture, set design, and symbolism. Drawing on themes of dance, flight, and transformation, her art captures the drama and alchemy of the everyday.
This abstract mixed-media painting on canvas takes inspiration from Samhain (pronounced Sowan) – the Gaelic festival held on 1st November to mark the arrival of the dark half of the year. Traditionally celebrated with bonfires and candles, it is believed to be the time when the veil between our world and the supernatural is at its thinnest. A moment to honour the dead and celebrate the living, Samhain embodies both mystery and renewal.
Created with recycled collage, wax, acrylic ink, and metallic mediums, the piece carries a rich, layered texture that reflects the festival’s interplay of light and shadow, remembrance and celebration.
