Saturday Night Takeaway

Saturday Night Takeaway

Haus Of Lucy, AKA Lucy Bryant, is a contemporary artist who appropriates found objects and images, and slips in quirky nods to contemporary culture. Her creations disrupt the ordinary and form new, thought-provoking and highly-amusing works of art.

Speaking of Saturday Night Takeaway, Haus of Lucy explains:

Mrs Bingley had finished her embroideries, taken tea with Lady Darcy, written all her correspondence and now she was BORED.

"I want to live like common people", she declared to Mr B over breakfast one morning. "But what do they DO?"

"I believe they smoke some fags and play some pool, and never go to school," he replied. "And in the evenings, for a treat, they eat something called 'curry', which they have delivered by a servant on horseback because they have no cooks of their own".

"Excellent!" Mrs Bingley exclaimed. "Let's give Cook the night off and order a 'curry' and pretend to be common. What fun!"

Which is how Mr and Mrs Bingley found themselves tucking into a chicken tikka masala with poppadoms on Saturday night. And they loved it so much they vowed to give Cook the night off more often (this never happened).

To create this signed original piece, Lucy has embellished a vintage china ornament with polymer clay and ceramic paint. The piece is signed on the base.

Size (cm): 23 x 10 x 15
