Small Union Flag, 2016

Since his career began in the 1950s, Sir Peter Blake has been prolific, creating paintings, collage, typography and more inspired by his fascination with popular culture. Blake’s impact as the face of contemporary art is so significant, he is now known as the ‘Godfather of Pop Art.’ 

Blake has used flags in his work since the 1960s, demonstrating his fascination with the cultural relevance of a flag to each country. Speaking of the Union Jack, Blake states: “I am very patriotic. I love the Union Jack Flag; the sense of history it gives and the union between four great countries that it represents.” 

This print was created to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday.  

This silkscreen print with glitter is from a limited edition of 100, signed and numbered by the artist.
