The show continues Rose’s exploration of the Machiavellian branding tactics used by companies to sell dangerous products. By evoking classic literature, Rose compares Shakespearean tragedy with the conflicts between cigarette company and consumer.
In Solaris, Rose uses a quote from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to create a literary take on the stark warnings found on modern cigarette packets. By invoking the infamous phrase uttered by Romeo, Rose offers a wry take the addictive effect of both love and tobacco.
