Sphinx Gold Leaf
Marc Quinn's Sphinx series is a collection of sculptures of Kate Moss in contorted yoga poses. The series explores the idea of the supermodel as an idol who is more of a cultural hallucination rather than a person of actual flesh and blood. Quinn was drawn to Moss because of her place in society as someone who is admired and observed, but about whom we have very little actual knowledge. The sculpture was created using life casts of Kate Moss herself.
Of the work, Quinn commented: 'This is not a portrait of a person, it's a portrait of an image twisted by our collective desires.'
The Sphinx Golf Leaf screenprint features an image of the original bronze sculpture hand-finished in gold leaf overglaze. It is from a limited edition of 150, signed by the artist.
