Contemporary artist, Mark Powell creates intricate hand-drawn portraits on found antique documentation using just a standard Bic Biro. While there is rarely a connection between his subject and chosen canvas, Powell explains: "They are chosen to complement each other, and I hope lead the viewer to wonder, and maybe create, a shared history for the two.'
For this artwork, Powell brings his subject to life with the help of a map of Paris, the blues and reds of the city's train lines and borders adding exquisite detail to the piece.
The City of Light is a six-colour silkscreen print, utilising a special custom ink to replicate the same glossy finish as the biro. From a limited edition of 50, the piece is signed and numbered by the artist.
