Brighton-based artist, Richard Berner created this piece for Come In Closer, his first solo show, which took place in 2019 at The Old Bank Vault in London.
To create the beetle, Berner enlisted his trusty cast of hundreds of tiny meticulously hand-drawn "champs', woven together to produce the light and shade of the patterns on the insect's delicate wings. By combining fine pen, gouache washes and 24c gold leaf, Berner has created a stunning piece that captures the incomparable beauty of nature.
