Under The Volcano
Orchids regularly crop up in Marc Quinn's work, allowing him to further explore themes of beauty and death. For Under the Volcano, Quinn brings together orchids from different continents that would never typically bloom at the same time, capturing them together in their prime.
To create the artwork, Quinn photographs the flowers and digitally-reworks them prior to printing, deliberately accentuating the voluptuous nature of his carefully chosen subjects. Of orchids, Quinn has commented: 'Orchids are like perfectly evolved little sculptures in themselves, they're full of colour, interesting shapes and beauty. Even though they are a plant's reproductive organs, they pun on human ones too. They make you realise it is colour, life and sexuality that keeps the world turning'.
Under the Volcano is from a limited edition of 150, signed on the front and numbered on the reverse by the artist.
