Yogi Bear, Original

This piece is from A Hero’s Journey - Euan Roberts’ 2023 solo show at Enter Gallery. The show subverts the traditional narrative arc from mythology, arguing we don’t have to undertake a journey to become our own hero. Instead, let’s be grateful for what we have now.

Animals are a staple of Roberts’ work, most notably his Fez-wearing bear, who is enjoying a spot of yoga in this piece. He explains: 

“I use the bear as an avatar for ideas around Zen Buddhism and Daoist traditions. Bear represents this idea of zen – it’s always just in the moment, doing its own thing. A bear would never do yoga, but it is always moving in a purely instinctive way – that’s something humans try to replicate. There’s a harmony in nature I feel like we need to get back to as humans.”

This original painting is created with acrylic on canvas, and comes signed by the artist.
